Tenders are invited for a two-year lease of a shipyard in the NEW MARS system.
This is available to any MAFC registered company. Any commercial vessel may
be built. Applications for permission to construct other classes will be considered.
The following statement was issued
by the MAFC Foreign Affairs secretariat, New Mars.
Senator Antoinette Banderas has announced a full public inquiry into the Mystery
Affair following her return from a visit to her homeworld of Marti in Quadrant
5. While praising the work of Senator Cornelius, head of her coalition partner
the CDP, for chairing the Interstellar Coordination Committee in her absence,
she said:
"I have every confidence that our forces and Thai Sho Zapata will be proved
to have acted correctly and in accordance with international law, but an event
of this seriousness requires us to be absolutely open and above board, and show
that we have nothing to hide or reproach ourselves for, and - where appropriate
- that individuals, myself included, will be required to account for their actions.
Our citizens, our friends and allies and the interstellar community in general
would, I am sure, expect no less of an open and democratic state like ourselves."
Regarding the situation in Quadrant 7, she said:
"I am extremely concerned about the situation developing between the New
Republic and the Sirian Socialist Republic in Quadrant 7. At a time when humanity
continues to face extremely serious external threats, we should not be fighting
each other. I fully support the stance taken by Governor Elgon, and thank the
Centauri Conglomerate for its constructive offer of mediation. I will be instructing
our own Supreme Councillor Bradbury to assist in any way he can with the process
of de-escalation of this conflict, to allow us to get back to the business of
winning the war against the Roaches."
Finally, she also paid her condolences to the late Senator Frink of the GFA.
"He was a man with a great zest for life, and his loss impoverishes us
all. At this sad time our thoughts are with his family and friends. However,
I would like to congratulate Senator Attar on his appointment and I am sure
that he will be an able successor, with whom I look forward to working."
During the run-up to New Year celebrations on New Mars, Senator Banderas also
unveiled a new monument to the dead of the First Exterminator War [pictured].
The Exterminator Memorial will stand outside the Senate House near the Heroes'
Monument in the Plaza of the Heroes, Crater City, New Mars.

Subject: Balance of MAFC military forces
The recent changes to the threats facing Humanity, the Ministry of War in conjunction
with the MSN has been examining the MAFC's military stance and the following
steps have been taken of the past 8 octants:
. 4 DDI have been purchased from commercial concerns in order to speed up the
enlargement of the MSN. These vessels will be fully incorporated into the MSN
by the middle of the year
. Scouting of the outer sectors is being standardised with the use of C5 vessels
to provide logistics , C5A-S class vessels (withdrawn from Starguard duties
- see below) being added to Scouting Teams. These teams will be standardised
as 1 SCI, 2 C5A-S and 1 C5. This will release some SCI vessels which by the
end of this year will have returned to Q0, undergone a routine refit and are
currently planned then to be added to the war reserve.
. Planets in Q0 over the second half of 3212 saw one of their GFDs reconfigured
to PGD, with the surplus equipment going into storage. The reduction in expenditure
was used to fund the acquisition of the 4 DDI mentioned above. Certain PGD units
in colonies with a low industrial base have been reduced to MD status.
. Those systems with large fleets of MSN or JAC stationed in the area have seen
a modest reduction in Starguard, as have those in Q0 where all systems have
two DD vessels. The security inherently provided by presence of naval vessels
has allowed these Starguard vessels to be reconfigured as C5A-S and it is these
that have joined the Scouting Teams.
. The MAFC continues to build warships: there are currently 3DDI and 3BBI under
construction.
The MAFC remains totally committed to a strong defence and continued cooperation
with like-minded polities in the joint defence of Humanity
